Rep. Raul Grijalva died Thursday at the age of 77 due to complications from cancer treatment, his office announced, just a week after theĀ passing of Rep. Sylvester Turner.
āRep. Grijalva fought a long and brave battle,ā his office said in a statement.

āMore than two decades ago, Rep. Grijalva embarked on a journey to be a voice for Southern Arizonans in Washington, D.C,ā the statement said. āDriven by his community values and spirit, he worked tirelessly and accomplished so much ā for Arizona and for the country.ā
Grijalva (D-Ariz.) revealed his cancer diagnosis last year but ran for reelection in the 2024 cycle nonetheless, optimistic in the treatment he was receiving.
After winning reelection, he stepped down as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee.
