Brush fires on Long Island’s East End have shut down a main route to the Hamptons and created a smoke cloud visible for miles.
Multiple fire departments are responding to the fires which are near Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton and in the Pine Barrens, in a “large-scale coordinated countywide effort,” Southampton emergency management told Newsday.

“We are in close communication with local partners on Long Island to coordinate assistance and make sure they have the resources they need to protect their communities,” Gov. Hochul posted on X.
The eastbound Sunrise Highway was closed at Exit 58 and police are asking people to steer clear.
